Ed Kahn has been with KGHL since 1978. He serves as an arbitrator and mediator, under the auspices of the American Arbitration Association or as privately arranged. Ed is also pro bono Special Counsel for the Colorado Center on Law and Policy, which advocates for the interests of low-income Coloradans.

Prior to joining KGHL, Ed was an associate and a partner at Holland & Hart. He graduated cum laude from Harvard Law School in 1965, where he served on the Board of Student Advisors. He completed his undergraduate work at the University of Colorado, where he graduated cum laude and served as Editor-in-Chief of the Colorado Daily.

Ed has been named in The Best Lawyers in America for more than 28 years. He has also been listed repeatedly in Colorado Super Lawyers, and received recognition for his work in arbitration, mediation, and constitutional law.

Ed is a co-founder of the Colorado Lawyers Committee and a past president of the Denver Bar Association. He serves on a variety of professional and community organizations, and is a director of the Colorado Consumer Health Initiative.



Representative Cases

Arbitrated more than 100 cases involving franchises, contracts, health care, business acquisitions, computer software, securities, rules of the Olympics, insurance contracts, consumer finance and educational testing.

Represented companies and individuals in disputes over contracts of many kinds, including computer hardware and software, oil and gas, real estate, employment, insurance coverage, trademark infringement and other issues.

Represented lawyers and law firms in cases alleging legal malpractice in business advice, employment advice and tax advice situations.

Represented lawyers and law firms in law firm breakups, and rendered professional ethics advice to lawyers.

Represented accountants in cases alleging accounting malpractice, and aiding and abetting violations of the securities laws.

Represented corporate principals or officers and directors in business takeovers and breakups.

Represented investors in cases against securities firms, and defended securities firms in actions by investors.

Represented individuals in cases against local governments, dealing with employment issues, development issues and other matters; represented local governments in employee discipline cases.

Represented citizen groups in actions against local governments.

Representative Pro Bono and Public Interest Matters

Represented public benefits recipients in a suit against State of Colorado for timely and accurate benefits processing where new computer system has caused improper terminations, denials, and delays.

Represented public interest in administrative proceeding, obtaining $155 million for conversion foundation after lobbying statute governing conversion to for-profit status of Colorado Blue Cross and other health insurors.

Appointed Special Counsel by Colorado Supreme Court to investigate possible mismanagement by State Public Defender.

Appointed Special Prosecutor to prosecute Boulder Daily Camera and two reporters for improper contacts with jurors in a death penalty criminal case.

Represented Colorado Legislature in an action securing a ruling that legislation concerning confidentiality of grand jury reports took precedence over a Supreme Court rule.
