  About the Firm

We think lawyer jokes are funny, too.

We are a tight-knit group of ten attorneys, three paralegals, four legal secretaries, and three administrative professionals. Most of the time, we actually like each other, too—which makes working here all the more rewarding.

The issues we typically handle are often the most serious in nature, which is why sometimes, when the job is done, we are not. And by not always taking ourselves too seriously, we regain a healthy perspective and reaffirm our appreciation for those things most valuable to us, be they family, friends, or easy laughs with coworkers.

That’s why you will find some interesting personalities at KGHL. It’s also why you might find cartoon caricatures of our most esteemed partners hanging on the office walls or hear some not-so-gentle ribbing at a staff meeting. It keeps everybody on their toes.

History

How did we get this way? Years of practice.

Originally founded in 1972 as a small legal practice, KGHL has steadily grown into a team of ten attorneys and has evolved into one of the preeminent litigation firms in Colorado.

With a unique blend of defense and plaintiff work, as well as a wide array of services and specialized areas of expertise, KGHL has earned a strong reputation among its peers, evidenced by the frequency with which clients are referred from other law firms and by the fact that KGHL has an AV Peer Review rating—which signifies the highest level of ethical standards and professional excellence.

Community Service

Some law firms treat pro bono and volunteer work as a necessary evil, mandating that attorneys take on a pro bono case once every year or so.

At KGHL, because of our belief in this community and our commitment to helping others, pro bono and volunteer work is an integral part of our practice.

KGHL attorneys are deeply engaged on a pro bono basis with a variety of issues and clients, including: the indigent and the organizations that represent them; free speech and establishment clause issues, campaign finance reform and TABOR reform. We are also a member of the Colorado Lawyers Committee, an organization that includes nearly all of Denver’s most prominent law firms and which is dedicated to providing pro bono services that have a positive systemic impact on the underserved in our community.

Who you are can often be defined by who you associate with. KGHL is fortunate to be involved and affiliated with dozens of great organizations that help make our community and our State a better place, and help us to better serve our clients.

KGHL’s attorneys serve and volunteer with nonprofit groups, boards and commissions, bar association committees, as well as civic, neighborhood, and political organizations.

Through these affiliations, we have lobbied the Colorado state legislature on behalf of the public, we have represented the public interest in litigation resulting in a $155 million payment to aid public health needs, and we have been on the cutting edge of ballot initiative advocacy and the strengthening of Colorado’s election system. We have also fought for and resolved a property rights disagreement in a 45-year-old land dispute between descendants of the original Mexican settlers and a major landowner in Colorado’s San Luis Valley, and stood up for Denver neighborhoods to combat noise pollution and preserve our city’s parks.

Community and public service is not just a resume-builder at KGHL, it is part of who we are.
